Welcome, 2013! Plus a 2012 Recap.

Happy New Year everyone! :)

First of all, yes, I am sitting in bed blogging at 1:54 AM. Ha ha. Don't worry, I haven't been sitting in bed all of NYE. I rang in the new year with John and some friends, and it was a blast. We hung out, watched The Big Bang Theory, played Scattergories, and laughed as John and Adam attempted to open and pour sparkling cider into four glasses with 30 seconds until the clock struck 12:00. Plus, I got a perfect midnight kiss from a perfect guy.

So, it is officially 2013! I would say that I can't believe it, but I actually can because the past few years have flown by without bothering to slow down for a single second. I'm very excited for this year. 2012 was a huge year of changes for me. In 2013, I hope to enjoy these changes and continue to shape my post-college life.

I was thinking earlier today about the major moments of this year. I have decided they go a little something like this:

1. I graduated from college with my Bachelor's degree. I can still remember being 18 and feeling like that day would never come. Well, it finally did on August 10, 2012. I walked across the stage of the Leon County Civic Center and went from FSU student to FSU alumni. I couldn't be more proud.

2. I met John. I know I talk about him a lot, but I just can't help it! :) We were introduced through a mutual friend in March. He accompanied me to sorority's formal, and we were casual friends for months after that. In September that all changed, we became a couple, and I honestly don't think I could be any happier.

3. I landed my first "big girl" job. I have had to work part-time jobs throughout college to support myself, but in September I landed my first college degree required, all benefits included job. I'm certainly not rolling in the dough, but it's stable, promising, and allows me to pay my bills without crying every month...most of the time anyway. ;)

4. I moved into a new place, and it is the place I have felt most at home since I moved out of my parent's house. I have two roommates, and I am also lucky enough to call them two of my dearest friends. I have plenty of space for living and entertaining, and more importantly, plenty of opportunities for a good laugh with my roomies.

5. I have found a church that I love, and through God I am feeling content, as well as realizing that I have been successful in my life endeavors thus far. I feel so blessed, and I know that without God leading me, things would have probably turned out much differently in 2012.

So that's my 2012 in a nutshell. Here are a few pictures of the journey. :)

Cheers to 2013!

Sunday Social: First Go 'Round

Today I am trying something new and joining a link-up hosted by Neely at A Complete Waste of Makeup. Make sure to click on the button below if you wish to take part in the fun!

Sunday Social

Here are the questions for this week:

1. What is my favorite New Year's Eve?
I have to be honest here, I'm typically a very boring person on New Year's Eve. I tend to stay in and watch movies with friends, and I'm sometimes even asleep before midnight. Oops. However, I will always remember New Year's Eve of my freshman year in high school because I was in Gatlinburg, TN with my youth group at a conference, watching concerts and just having a blast.

2. Are you doing anything for this NYE, and if so, what?
I have no set plans yet. John and I are supposed to discuss that sometime today, but I hope we do something fun! I want a chance to wear a new outfit that I have, ha ha.

3. Name a book we should all read come January?
Hm...great question. A book I really enjoyed this past year was Wuthering Heights. One of my absolute favorites is Water for Elephants if you haven't read that yet!

4. What are your New Year's resolutions?
I don't really like to refer to them as resolutions. They are more so things that I want to do to further better myself. I plan to do an in-depth post on these probably sometime during this long weekend, but a few of my ideas are:
*continue running/eating better
*finish writing my first book
*obtain my teaching certification
*save some money
*spend more time with loved ones

Link-ups are a lot of fun! I can't wait to read the answers of everyone who answered the questions!

Today was a Great Day

The title of this post pretty much sums it up. :p

You know, some days are just really nice, and today was one of them. It's difficult to ruin a Saturday to begin with, but there wasn't a single downside to the past 24 hours.

I woke up at about 8:00 AM. I find it impossible to sleep in anymore now that I work an 8 to 5 job and have to wake up at 6 AM every morning. Does anyone else have this problem? Anyway, I stayed in bed until about noon, on the computer, revamping my blog. I think it looks much better now. I wasn't feeling the purple and yellow background I had before.

John's best friend got married today. John was the best man, so I rode to the church with his parents for the ceremony, then rode over to the reception with John. He looked so handsome in his tux. :) The wedding was absolutely beautiful, and so was the new couple. They are such sweet people, and I'm glad that I have gotten to meet them through John. The food was great, the company was fun, and the dancing was a blast. All in all, it was just a really nice evening, and I'm thankful that I got to be a part of it.

My friend Liz and her husband stopped by for a quick, late visit when I got home. They have been here in Florida for a couple of weeks and are heading back to their home in Texas. I'm glad I got the opportunity to tell them goodbye before they left!

I'm now sitting in bed, watching The Nanny on my new TV that I got for Christmas. This show never gets old, I swear! I watch it almost every night when I hit the sheets. What is your bedtime TV show, if you have one?

Christmas Season 2012: A Picture Adventure

This has definitely been the best Christmas that I have had in a few years. I can't even explain how thankful I am to be blessed with the family and friends that are in my life. Spending time with them during the holiday season is truly magical. I'm addicted to taking pictures, so I thought I would share some photos from this Christmas season!

Tacky Christmas sweater party with my friend/roommate Amber!

Christmas lights at Dorothy B. Oven park with John.

Celebrating Christmas with John a few days early. He's such a sweetheart. :) As you can see, I'm wearing my tacky sweater again, ha ha. :p

My beautiful Christmas gift from John. He also got me a super cute shirt. The guy has good taste!

Baking Christmas cookies at my parent's house.

My cousin Shelby and I with our "rival candy bars," ha ha. She's a UF freshman and I'm an FSU alumni. No further explanation needed. :p

 My little cousin Riley!

 Taylor, Shelby, and I.

Cousins, but may as well be sisters. :)

All of the grandkids on my mom's side of the family.

My "little" brother and I at my Grandma's on Christmas Day.

My new Michael Kors phone case. I love it!

Sephora gift card well spent.

I hope you all had an absolutely fantastic Christmas! Cheers to the upcoming year of 2013!

Looking a Lot Like Christmas

I'm sitting in my bed watching Christmas with the Kranks. I love this movie so, so much. It never fails to crack me up. Along with Home Alone, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and A Christmas Story, it is on my list of must watch Christmas movies. If you've never watched it, shame on you. Stop what you're doing and go watch it. After you finish reading this post of course. ;)

I am feeling very accomplished this evening. My house is clean. My work week (which has definitely been the slowest ever, by the way) is almost over. I've stuck to exercising and eating well these past few days. And, of course, all of my Christmas presents and cards are prepped and ready to go! This is a record for me folks. I'm normally that person that shops on December 23rd, and wraps at 10:00 PM on Christmas Eve. So to have all of my presents wrapped one week ahead of time is huge for me!

I shared another first with John this week. We went to the FSU basketball game on Monday night. Of course he's been to a million of them, but I never went to one as a student. The team isn't as good as they were last year, but it was still a fun experience! We won against Louisiana-Monroe. Of course, it was probably such a good time because I was with him. I could sit beside John and watch paint dry and be completely entertained just because he is present. I'm pretty crazy about the kid.

I am stoked for the cold weekend weather that we have coming here in Florida. I love cold weather, which isn't typical for a native Floridian, and I'm always complaining that it's never cold during the holidays. Well, I'm about to get my wish. The leasing agency I rent from sent out multiple e-mails today about freeze precautions. Of course, I received those right after I read the e-mail about being under a tornado watch until 7 PM. I swear, Florida is the only state where you have to watch for tornadoes and prepare for a freeze in the same day, ha ha.

Well, I'm going to retire early tonight. Tomorrow is FRIDAY, and if you guys are like me, it's your last workday until Christmas! :) I'm so excited to do Christmas with John on Saturday, and then I will be heading down to my parent's house for a few days. This is such a happy time of year!

Heavy Hearts and the Holidays

Our country has been shaken by yet another appalling act of violence. With this being the third mass shooting  this year(the first being The Dark Knight theater disaster, and the second being the mall shooting in Oregon), it's so hard not to just completely give up on society. There comes a point where we just stop and ask, "WHY?" What next? Is this destined to become the norm in our society?

I cannot even begin to fathom the pain that these families are feeling, especially right before the holidays. I just pray that something will change in this world, in this nation, that will help us to avoid these types of tragedies. Keep pushing through this tough time Newtown, Connecticut. You have so many thoughts and prayers coming your way.

On a lighter note...it's Friday! Finally. This week has been insanely long. Sometimes work gets overwhelming. Only one more week until I will have five days off for Christmas! I'm so excited to get to celebrate with my loved ones. It's such a special time of year.

Tonight my roommates and I went out to dinner to celebrate one of their birthdays early. My roommate Alyssa turns 22 on the 21st, but she will be home with her family down south for the holidays so we celebrated a little early. We had a great time, enjoying some delicious pizza and just relaxing after a long week of work and finals (for them, since they're still in college, ha ha).  I truly have the best roomies! :)

It's going to be a great weekend! My mom and aunt and little cousin Riley are coming to spend a couple of days with me. We are going to do some Christmas shopping and look at Christmas lights, and just have an all around good time. I hope you all have a great weekend too!

I have to say...I'm not very happy with myself right now.

Today is the first day in 9 days that I haven't went for a run. It's been almost two weeks since I have come across my new found motivation, and in all honesty I'm very upset that it failed me this evening. I'm really, really enjoying it, but my poor calf muscles just needed a break! Plus...it's really cold. I'm a Floridian...52 degree weather makes our joints lock up! Ha ha.

Besides, I think I have kinda been pushing too hard. You know how you're supposed to have "rest days" in between runs? Yeah...I haven't done that at all. So I guess I shouldn't beat myself up too badly.

I'm still trying to figure out what exactly has given me this drive to make some lifestyle changes. It's much stronger than any I have had in the past. Maybe it's because I know I spend 40 hours a week sitting at a desk...which doesn't take any physical effort at all. Maybe I've just realized that I'm not getting any younger. I'm 23...if I want to have a healthy life, now is the time to make the changes and do so. Maybe I just want to be a little happier with myself.

Something I do know, and this may sound crazy, is that I love going to bed at night feeling worn out from a good workout. I have always liked that, lol. Strange, I know, but it makes me feel like I've really accomplished something worthwhile.

Okay, I'm going to stop beating myself up for skipping a day. In all honesty, it was probably a good thing. I will pick back up tomorrow. I have practically lived on salad today, so it's not like I've completely ruined the past two weeks.

Hope you have all had a great Thursday! :)

P.S. Running tips are appreciated from any of you runners out there!

Third Time is a Charm...Right?

I will just begin by being completely honest...this is my third attempt at a successful blog. Yes, you read that correctly. I really don't even know why blogging has been such a difficult thing for me, because I love it. When you love something, it's supposed to be easy to do, right?

I guess I just really haven't found my "blogging niche" yet. My first blog was sort of a "pseudo" beauty blog. It was fun for a while, but I realized after a few months that although I enjoy nail polish and make-up, I'm not exactly enough of an expert to write about it. Plus, writing about the newest eyeshadow in my collection just isn't very fulfilling. Shocking, I know.

Blog number two was my attempt to be philosophical, and find lessons in every day life. Let's be real...I'm just not that deep of a person. Creative, yes. Philosophical, no. After a couple of weeks I just felt really bored with my posts.

So here we are...attempt number three. And...I really want this to work! I've thought in the past that people may get bored reading about me and the things that go on in my life. However, some of my favorite blogs are  about just that...people's lives. And really, what do I know more about than myself?

So who am I? I am:

1. A recent graduate of the Florida State University. With a BS in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, my plan to be a teacher was interrupted by a later graduation date than expected. Therefore, I am currently living the life of a desk-dwelling young professional.

2. An aspiring best-selling author.

3. A life-long chunky girl on the slow but sure path to becoming a 5k runner.

4. A lover of literature and the performing arts.

5. Blessed with an amazing family, phenomenal friends, and the most fantastic boyfriend a girl could ever ask for.

Join me on my journey of progress, passion, and young professionalism. :)
