Catch Up with a Side of First Things First

It has been a week since my last post. How did that happen? Time gets away from me sometimes.
I've been spending some of my free time today catching up on everyone's blogs. I love all of the posts about The Oscars and last night's episode of The Bachelor. Those seem to be the two topics reigning over my blog feed at the moment.
So what have I been up to the past seven days?
Well, work was pretty much the pits last week. I'm just ready for things to slow down a little! Actually, yesterday and today have already been a vast improvement in the work department. Besides work, nothing really exciting happened!
On Friday I left to go out of town for the weekend. I went with my friend/roommate Amber to visit her hometown, which is near Tampa. It was a really fun weekend! We spent all day Saturday out fishing on the Gulf. It was nice to just cruise around on the boat, which is named The God Seeker. I even caught three sea bass! The weather could have been better. The water was really choppy, and all the rocking led me to experience my first minor bit of seasickness. Luckily I had taken some Dramamine beforehand, so it was very short lived. There also wasn't a drop of sunshine, but it never rained. I still managed to get a little pink sunburn on my face though...tell me how that works?

On Sunday we went to church and then out to lunch before we headed back to Tallahassee. We went to Bubba Gump's Shrimp Co., which I have never been to before that. It's always fun to try new places, and it was really tasty! I had classic fried shrimp, and they were delicious. Amber had the coconut crusted shrimp, which were even more delicious! I will definitely be getting that on my next visit.

Yesterday was the return of the always-dreaded Monday. The weather here has been absolutely terrible. I think we have received around 10 inches of rain since Thursday, and today is the first time we have experienced sunshine since then! Anyway, it was a very gloomy work day. To balance that out though, I accomplished a lot and then went to my usual workout last night. I'm really sore today after slacking so bad all weekend.

Now that I have that out of the way, I'm going to link up with Halie for First Things First!

Here are the firsts for this round:
First beverage of choice.
Well, since honesty is the best policy...I will be honest. I am a little addicted to Mountain Dew, which is the absolute worst soda to love. So sadly, that's the first beverage of choice. However, it's no longer the first beverage I choose. I'm really trying to cut that out of my life...so lately I'm going to reach for water. It's getting easier, thank goodness!
I also stinking love sweet tea. Love it. Darn my southern heritage.
First breakfast choice.
Most mornings I eat a protein bar or a piece of fruit since it's so convenient. But...my choice would always be some type of egg sandwhich. Fried, scrambled, over easy...I love them all. Add a couple of pieces of 12-grain bread and some mayo and I'm in breakfast heaven.
Oh, bacon wouldn't take away from that breakfast heaven either.
Pancakes too.
And muffins!
Oh heck...breakfast is just great.
First dessert of choice.
Freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. I love those suckers!
Cheesecake is a close second, preferably plain or with cherries. Yum!
These categories have made me really hungry!

First Things First

I woke up feeling really sick to my stomach this morning, but I decided to go to work anyway because I thought it would pass. Not the case. I was feeling pretty lousy so my boss let me leave. I got home at about 10:00 and I've been laying in bed watching old episodes of America's Next Top Model. I'm feeling a better now. I'm hoping it was just a disagreement with something I ate as opposed to a virus of some kind. I hope I continue to feel better because I go to a contemporary dance class on Tuesday nights and I really don't want to have to miss out on it!

Since I'm bed ridden, it's a perfect time to blog. I'm going to head over and join Halie for First Things First!

This week's firsts:

First thing I do at the gym.
Here's the thing...I don't go to the gym. Ha ha. My new shot at a healthy lifestyle involves working out at least four times a week, but I've only been at it for about three months. I would eventually like to join a gym...maybe. I definitely prefer things like Zumba, dance classes and jogging.

First date with my current significant other.
John accompanied me to my sorority's formal last spring. We had met up one time briefly before that after talking on Facebook for a few days, but the dance was our actual first date. Here's a picture from it!

First email address.
Ha ha ha. This is embarrassing. I'm trying to remember how old I was when I created my first email address. I want to say I was in 6th or 7th grade. At that time I had a huge celebrity crush on this guy:

Josh Hartnett anyone?
Therefore, my first email address was luvjoshhartnett@hotmail.com.
What's even more embarrassing is I actually used this address until I was in at least 10th grade. I wish I was kidding. Don't worry, I have a much more grown up email address now. :p

Weekend Shenanigans

It's a Monday.
Aren't y'all excited?
Ha ha, yeah right. I'm definitely not either.
I'm not doing anything particularly exciting right now. Just eating my yogurt with a fork, because that's what I grabbed instead of a spoon. Oops.
Also, I'm super jealous of all of you that have work off for President's Day today. But, I forgive you.
Anywho, I thought I would link up with Sami and share my weekend shenanigans! It was a pretty low-key weekend, but sometimes that's just the way I like the.
Well, I worked 8-5 on Friday. Boo. Work has been making me insane the past few weeks. Insane in the membrane. There has been so much going on! I have to give myself encouraging pep talks on the drive to the office every morning.
I left work at exactly 5:01 and drove over to campus to meet up with John at the FSU vs. URI baseball game. (Which we won by the way. Go 'Noles!) The game had started at 4:00, so I was obviously late, but I still got to enjoy about an hour and a half of it.
John and I left from there and drove over to my house. I changed clothes and grabbed the stuff I needed to bake his belated Valentine's treat, which I mention here.
From there we left, swung by Zaxby's to grab some dinner, and then drove over to his place. We sat in front of the TV watching Bewitched while we ate, and then I baked his dessert.
After that we watched an episode of Chuck (we are slowly making our way through the series) and then a little of a basketball game, which I completely fell asleep during.
John sent me home early because I was tired, ha ha. I'm getting old. :(
I successfully slept until 10:30, which is really late for me! It was amazing.
I then ventured downstairs, made an egg sandwhich, and sat in front of the TV for a couple of hours catching up on my recorded episodes of Dance Moms and The Big Bang Theory.
When I finally talked myself into moving, I went upstairs and deep cleaned my room and bathroom, did some laundry, and filed some bills and other paperwork.
I worked out for about 30 minutes, trying this new one room interval workout I found on Pinterest. It's basically reps of things like jumping jacks, squats, and marching in place. You do the whole thing, rest for two minutes, and then do it again. I was impressed with how good it left me feeling.
I showered, and took a nap. Then I went and grabbed some dinner, and my roommates and I lounged around the living room watching movies.
Sometimes being lazy is really nice.
I woke up around 9:00, and did the same workout that I did on Saturday.
I showered and got ready, and then drove to church. After service, I went out to lunch with a big group of my church friends
I went home and blogged/wrote a little.
My roommates and I lounged around and watched more movies, ha ha.
I went to Bible study around 6, and then went to John's house for a couple of hours after that.
And then I came home, dreaded Monday a little, and went to bed.
Don't be jealous of my exciting life. :p Ha ha, it was actually a really nice weekend. I'm really laid back, so it doesn't take much to entertain me!
Would you believe that I didn't take a single picture this weekend though? That's really out of character for me!
Make sure to go link up and share your shenanigans! :)

Sunday Social: Valentine's Edition

Hey everyone! I hope you're all having a great Sunday!

I just got in from after-church lunch not too long ago. A big group of us went to Vertigo Burgers and Fries, which is a delicious place with really unique burgers. I had bacon and a fried egg on mine, ha ha. It was a major cheat meal for me, and I don't even regret it!

Now that I'm full and happy, it's time for the Sunday Social! Today's questions are all about Valentine's Day.

Sunday Social

1. What is the best Valentine's Day you have ever had?
This year's without a doubt. You can read about it here. :)

2. What is the worst Valentine's Day you have ever had?
I actually have never had a bad one. Even if I don't have a Valentine, I spend it with family or friends.

3. What did you do for Valentine's this year?
John surprised me with a self-made candlelit dinner. Again, you can read about it in the link I mentioned in question 1.

4. What is your best Valentine's idea if you're single?
Have a girls night in, with dinner, wine and some good movies. Or, just spend the night with yourself, relaxing and enjoying the down time.

5. What is your favorite Valentine's candy?
Reeses Cups!!!!! All the way.

6. Favorite Valentine's memory from your childhood?
I loved Valentine's parties at school. Putting V-Day cards in everyone's little paper plate mailboxes was just the best thing ever. Wish I could go back to those times!
I also remember my brother and I helping my mom make a surprise dinner and decorating the house before my dad got home from work.

Well, I'm off to watch 27 Dresses with my roomies! Enjoy your day, and don't forget to go link up!

A Blog Button...Finally!

Hey guys!

I finally created a blog button, and I'm ready to start swapping!

Progress, Passion, and Young Professionalism
<a href="www.youngprogress.blogspot.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1356.photobucket.com/albums/q733/miranda_hunt1/download6_zps8d224588.jpg" alt="Progress, Passion, and Young Professionalism" width="125" height="125" /></a>

If you would like me to put your button on my page, I would be more than happy to do so. Just grab mine, let me know, and I will head over and return the favor!

Valentine's Recap

I'm not sitting in bed eating candy from my Valentine's Day Whitman's Sampler that John gave me. And I'm definitely not doing it Legally Blonde style, taking one bite from each until I decide which ones I like the best. PSH. What are you talking about?

Okay, obviously that's my guilty conscience speaking. That's definitely what I'm doing right now. But, don't judge me, because I have been very productive today. Up until this point of course. Everything is sparkling clean, and I even worked out. Yes, worked out. On a Saturday morning. So, a couple of pieces of chocolate from this heart shaped box are okay in my book.

I just wanted to give a quick little Valentine's Day recap, because John made it pretty darn special. He would never tell me anything about what we were doing because he was trying to keep it a surprise. I knew we were going to go out to eat, but that's about it. Or, at least I thought I knew.

I pulled up in his driveway on Thursday evening and he popped his head out of the door and told me he had to grab a couple of things before we left and I should go ahead and come inside for a second. When I was walking through the garage I smelled food cooking and almost commented about how someone must have been grilling something, because it smelled really good.

Well, I walked inside and smelled the food even more and noticed the pots and plates on the counter. He hugged me and said, "If you don't mind I thought we would dine in tonight." He took me into the dining room, where he had a table all set with a red table cloth, silverware, candles, a basket of bread and a box of chocolate and a card at my seat. He pulled my chair out for me and completely played the waiter game, telling me what was on the menu and excusing himself to plate the food. Everything was so cute, I couldn't resist snapping some pictures while he was gone.

He returned with wine, iced in a bucket, and two glasses and poured us both some and then went and grabbed the plates and set them on the table. He had created the menu and cooked everything himself, and it was so delicious. We had steak, red potatoes, cheese stuffed crescent rolls, and a delicious salad that he had created with corn, black beans, red and green peppers, tomato, basil, and vinaigrette salad dressing. Everything was so yummy, and I was very impressed. He even had a special music playlist going on in the background.
Sorry the pictures are a little fuzzy! A camera phone can only do so much. :p
After we finished dinner I opened my card and we danced for a while. We then snuggled up on the couch and watched a movie. After the movie was over we went over to Marble Slab Creamery and met my friend Amber and her boyfriend for some ice cream. John and I shared a Peanut Butter Galaxy, which is our favorite.

It was such a great night. He is the sweetest man on the planet, and I can't even begin to imagine my life without him now that he is in it. Last night I gave him his Valentine's card and baked some goodies for him after we got home from the FSU baseball game. I made baked Hershey kisses, which I found the idea for on Pinterest. They were delicious! I also tried to make some with Reeses Cups, and I think I liked those even better! Here is the pin in case you're interested.

Have a great Saturday afternoon!

Pits and Peaks

In case you're not able to tell, I could not be more excited about the fact that it's the weekend. I am literally itching for 5:00 to roll around.
Today, for the first time, I'm joining Allie and Brin for the Pit and Peak link-up. Here's how it works: you share the highlights of your week (peaks), and the moments that you would rather tuck away into a dark corner of your brain and forget forever (pits).
Let's get the negatives out of the way, shall we?
*Work. Has. Been. Insane. The past couple of weeks I have been so overwhelmed with projects that I have to make like two to-do lists a day to make sure that I don't forget anything. Oh, also, I've had to go back and re-do more than one thing, which really stresses me out because it makes me feel like I'm not doing a good job. I just want to be good at my job, but the program in which I work has crazy amounts of stuff to remember. My brain is more fried with this full time job than it ever was when I was in college and working part-time.
*I overslept 4 out of 5 mornings this week.
*My busy-ness has caused my house to slowly slip into a state of disarray. I'm actually looking forward to cleaning tomorrow!
*I have eaten so healthy this week. Even better than that, I have WANTED to eat healthy. My appetite changes more and more every day, and it's such a relief that the cravings for sugar and soda are slowly leaving my body. Of course, I cheated a little for Valentine's Day, but that's acceptable right?
*I worked out every day this week. It's really became something that I look forward to doing every day! I did 40 minutes of Ab Burner on Monday, an hour long contemporary dance class on Tuesday, and an hour of Zumba on Wednesday. Yesterday, again, was an exception for V-Day.
*Without a doubt, the highest peak of the week was my V-Day surprise from John last night. He surprised me by cooking me dinner, all by himself! I will be doing a thorough post about that probably later tonight. :)
I can't wait to read about your pits and peaks! Make sure you go link up. :)

Love is Patient

I'm doing another lunch time blog post. The second one this week! Aren't you proud of me? :p
Anyway, it's February 14th; the absolute girliest day of the year. Think about it, this day is full of flowers, glitter, gifts, and pink. Every girl, even if they claim to hate Valentine's Day, likes it. At least a little. You know it's true.
This is the day that millions of pictures of roses, jewelry, and engagements are going to pop up on your Facebook and Instagram. This is the day for public proclamations of love. It's the day that women put a lot of little extra time into getting ready in the morning, because they want to look nice for this day full of adoration.
I know, I know...people should show love every day of the year, not just today. I agree with that. However, I really feel that there is no harm in Valentine's Day, even if it is an "over commercialized holiday." It's fun, people. The people in your life deserve some extravagant pink and red gifts, don't you think? :p More importantly than that, think about the joy that these people bring to your daily existence.
I'm not someone that goes crazy over this holiday, but I also don't hate it either. It's nice to get texts and cards from friends and family, and it's also a good opportunity to do something special and different with your man, or friends, or the TV and a glass of wine, or whomever/whatever you want to spend time with.
Do y'all have any special plans tonight? What are they? I'm not positive what I have going on, because John won't tell me. :p I'm assuming it will be dinner somewhere yummy, which I am definitely down for. All of these salads are getting old!
Since I have to go to his place right after work, I went ahead and wore my dress and stuff for tonight to work, which I'm starting to regret a little. It's getting wrinkled, and I am not a fan of wrinkles. (Who is?) Oh well, I will just touch up my make-up and brush my hair and hope I don't look too terrible. Oh, female problems...
Oh well, I'm still really excited for John and I's first Valentine's Day together. We have been dating for over five months now, and have known each other for almost a year. I really don't know what I would do with him in my life. If you're reading this John...I love you tons and I can't wait until tonight!
Well, lunch break is nearing an end. Sigh... If only V-Day was a paid holiday and we didn't have to work. :p
And in honor of this day of love:
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
1 Corinthians 13:4-8

First Things First: First Edition!

I felt like using my lunch break to write a blog post. So, here I am! I'm going to be multitasking by typing while eating my salad, yogurt and granola. Let's see how it goes! ;)
I'm linking up with Halie and Hallie for my very first go at First Things First today. You should go join in, because it's goings to be tons of fun!
My computer is refusing to let this button work for some reason, so click HERE to go link-up after you finish reading. Sorry!
Here are this week's firsts:
*First thing I do when I wake up in the morning
Well, after I hit snooze about four times and throw a little mini tantrum over the fact that I don't want to get up, I typically put my phone on the charger and hop in the shower. A shower usually wakes me up and puts me into a more positive mindset, ha ha.
*First heart break
Oh goodness, I didn't even have to think twice about this one, lol. I started dating a guy from church (I'm not going to mention his name, just for privacy) when I was a freshman in high school. He was sweet, and cute, and hilarious. What more could a girl ask for? Believe it or not, we dated for over two years in high school, which I feel is pretty uncommon. I was head over heels in love with the kid.
He broke up with me in the church parking lot after evening service one Sunday. He was really sweet and honest about it. I remember boo hooing like a baby. Looking back at it now, it's a little embarassing. I was truly heart broken over the whole situation. I couldn't eat for like a week straight, and it took me a couple of years to completely get over him. Luckily, we were able to remain casual friends. I'm in a serious relationship, and he's married now, but we still run into each other every now and then. It was earth shattering then, but now I'm thankful for the experience and the doors that it has opened later in life.
*First high school dance or prom
I don't remember much about other dances I attended in high school, but I will never forget my proms. My Junior prom was the first formal event I ever attended in my life. I actually originally wasn't even going to go because the break-up I just mentioned happened right before it, and I was still depressed. Ha ha. My friends eventually talked me into it last minute, so I borrowed a dress and went with a group of my best girl friends.
We had dinner at a Japanese steakhouse and our moms chauffered us around all night, ha ha. One of my friends hair-do fell out before we even made it to the dance, and we had to stop by Claire's in the mall to buy stuff to fix it again. Really, it was all quite comical. In the end, it ended up being a really fun night. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures on this computer. Maybe I will add some later!
I think one reason I love posts like this is because I always remember things I haven't thought about in years! Good times, folks. Good times.
Make sure to go share your firsts!

Florida February Weekends

This is my second post of the day, but I really want to share my weekend with y'all!

I left work early on Friday and John and I drove down to my parent's place to spend a couple of days. I am originally from a very rural area of Florida, so I won't even bother to mention the name of the town or anything, ha ha. We spent Friday night and Saturday there, and had a really good time. My family is seriously the best.

Friday night my mom made lasagna for us for dinner. Her lasagna is the best I have ever had to this day. John agreed that it's amazing too. I ate healthy and worked out all week, and then probably ruined it with those two pieces of lasagna on Friday night. :p After dinner, John and I played a word game called Dabble with my mom and cousins.

The goal of the game is to form a 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 letter word with the 20 tiles that you randomly draw out of a bag. It's much harder than it looks, especially if you get letters like Q or X, or an apostrophe symbol. You also can't use proper nouns. Needless to say, we all got very competitive over it. I won the most games, and I will be honest, I was a little braggy. However, we played again on Saturday before we left and I didn't win a single time. That's what I get for rubbing it in people's faces. ;)

Saturday morning my brother had to get up early to go take the ACT. (He's a senior in high school.) My mom made us all a grilled cheese for breakfast, and then John and I went back to sleep for a little while. When we got up we got ready and drove over to Shired Island, which is a little tiny island off of the Gulf of Mexico. The weather was the definition of perfect yesterday. It's the beginning of February and we were all running around in shorts and light jackets. Some of my friends who live up north have been posting pictures on Facebook of all of the snow, and to think that I spent the day at a beach is kind of funny. This is the time of year that you just have to love living in Florida.

The epitome of perfect weather.
John soaking up some sun.
Sitting on the pier. How does a native Floridian have legs this white?  ;)
John took about 500 pictures of me, ha ha.
We hiked over to that side of the island.
Contemplating life...lol.
I love him. :)
I'm not the greatest at taking pictures in the sun!
We spent about five hours at Shired, having a picnic and hiking around the island. It was a great day, but being in the sun wore us out. After spending a little more time with my family, John and I drove back to Tallahassee. It was such a nice, low-key couple of days. John and my family make me feel so overwhelmed...with blessings. :)

Today has been super lazy. I went to church this morning, followed by lunch with some friends. Since I have been home I have just been lying around, blogging, watching TV, and doing a little writing. I'm trying not to completely dread work tomorrow.

Have a great Sunday night!

Sunday Social: 2/10/13

Hey everyone! How has your weekend been? Mine has been pretty fantastic, although I'm pretty bummed it's almost over!

It's time to link up for the Sunday Social again. The questions are really fun this week!

Sunday Social

1. What was your first car?
I had a 1999 Chevy Prizm. It was silver and I thought it was adorable! The AC didn't work, there wasn't a CD player (or even a tape player for that matter) and the radio was always fuzzy. Oh, the inside door handle was broken too, so I had to roll the window down to open the door from the outside, ha ha. But...I loved that car. I wish I had a picture of it!

2. Who was your favorite childhood teacher?
Hm...probably my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Evans. I actually also had her for 8th grade English, so that was pretty cool! She was such a sweet, encouraging woman. I still see and talk to her from time to time.

3. Were you in any sports/extracurricular activities?
My main activity was colorguard/winterguard. I absolutely loved it, and did it from freshman year of high school through freshman year of college, then I instructed some as well. I also served as co-captain my junior and senior years of high school. Some of the best times of my life are a result of guard. I miss it terribly!

Besides guard, I was in some clubs: Beta Club, Future Teachers of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the National Honor Society, which I was Vice-President of.

4. What was your favorite birthday party?
For my 10th birthday, I had an N'Sync themed party. Yes...it was awesome.
My Sweet 16 was also a lot of fun. I celebrated with a ton of friends and food!

5. Who was your teen celebrity crush?
Josh Hartnett! I was in love with that kid.

6. What show/movie did your parents not allow you to watch?
Hm...I wasn't allowed to watch a lot of stuff! I remember getting in a lot of trouble for watching Scream at a birthday party once. I also remember begging my mom to let me watch Never Been Kissed, and when she caved her and my dad made me cover my eyes during the "banana" scene. Ha ha.

Oh, childhood...ha ha. Can't wait to read some of your answers!

Life is Beautiful

Since I've been a less than satisfactory blogger over the past couple of weeks, I thought I would do a collective post to share some of the things that I have been up to recently. I have pictures burning a hole in my phone. They're dying to be shared, and you most likely haven't seen them unless you follow me on Instagram. (Which you should by the way, if you don't already! Hint hint. :p )

Also, apologies in advance if I seem scatterbrained. Matilda is on TV, and you can bet I'm watching it! It was only one of the greatest movies/books of my childhood, you know. Please tell me y'all love Matilda as much as I do!

Last weekend was really great. John and I went to the FSU vs. Duke basketball game with one of his med school friends. Needless to say, we lost. It wasn't the most exciting basketball game I have ever watched, but we still had a lot of fun! It's the second game I have went to this season, and in general actually. Believe it or not, I never went to one when I was a student. It's a much different atmosphere than a football game.

After the game, John came over to my place. My roommates and I had some friends over, and Amber made dinner (bourbon chicken and fried rice, yum!), then we went out back with the fire pit and made s'mores. It was perfect weather; chilly, but not so cold that we couldn't handle it. It was a great time, sitting around the fire, laughing, and listening to my other roommate Alyssa play the guitar. Nights like that are just perfect. It really is the simple things in life.

Sunday was the Super Bowl, of course! My friend/sorority "big" sister and her boyfriend had a get together, so John and I went with a couple of friends. It was everything Super Bowl Sunday should be; junk food, football, and friends. I'm not really into the NFL, but the game was still pretty exciting! I have to admit though, I enjoy the commercials much more. Did you have a favorite Super Bowl commercial?

I'm so glad tomorrow is Friday. This week has been really stressful work wise! I'm especially anxious because John and I are going to my parent's this weekend, which is a couple of hours south of here. The good news is, I only have to work until 1:00 tomorrow! Stoked.

I will be doing a fitness post soon, giving you and in depth update of my progress since the beginning of the year. If you want to see some short blurbs about it, check out "The Running Diaries" tab at the top of my blog.

I also owe you a book review!

See y'all soon! :)
